039 - Logma Café & Bistro

Logma Café Bistro is an Iranian–Iraqi bistro café on Goldsmiths Row in Hackney, east London, designed in collaboration with Bahbak Hashemi-Nezhad. Sitting between Columbia Road and Broadway Market, Logma is a neighbourhood eatery centred on home cooking, memory, and communal dining.

In creating the space we talked about atmosphere a lot; designing a room we wanted to spend time in and one that the city lacked. Somewhere polyvalent that is inviting during the day and desirable at night. Lighthearted yet with things to say.

 

We talked about a room that glows and glistens. Large mirrors that distort and create wonder.  Sensorial elements and subtle surprises. From overlaying a white lace curtain over a aubergine coloured latex one, pairing classic Bentwood chairs with transparent orange polycarbonate stools, and creating chandeliers and candlesticks where glass is draped over steel.

 

A sense of theatricality with Ziad and Farzin placed at the centre.​​
