026 - Soft Play Area
Soft-Play-Area is a proposal for a collective act of reclaiming and ‘de-polluting’ the air through cooking, creating togetherness and embodied experiences around food, and engaging with the idea of air in the big city from the perspective of smell.
The pavilion is a light circular semi-enclosed structure with an ad-hoc kitchen at the centre of it, located in Yerevan’s 2800th Anniversary Park. The intervention claims a chunk of this space and sensorially unburdens it from the ‘noise’ and smell of the city, allowing social exchange to flow in comparative freedom. By tapping into a long history of cooking and eating together in public spaces, participants are invited to investigate and re-imagine their connection to the air through the sounds, sights, aromas and rituals of food.
In this intervention, we invite visitors and participants to join, occupy and contribute to the co-creation of a new sensory landscape through collective cooking in and around the Soft-Play-Area, throughout the day, culminating in the act of sitting and eating together.
